Share your Google Photos library with a partner

Share your photo library

You can only share your photo library with one person at a time.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app . 
  2. Sign in with your Google Account.
  3. Tap Menu Menuand then Share your library and then Get started.
  4. Enter or select an email address. You can only invite someone with a Google Account.
  5. Select which photos to add to your partner account.
    • Add only some photos: You can filter the photos by faces, or by date.
    • Filter by face group: You can select one or more face groups to share. Photos that match any of the selected face groups will be shared. Learn more about filtering by faces.
    • Filter by date: Any photos whose dates come after the selected date will be shared. Learn more about filtering by date.
  6. Tap Next.
  7. If everything looks right, tap Send invitation.
  8. Verify your identity and finish set up.
  9. Optional: To see your partner’s photos, ask them to share their library with you after they’ve accepted your invitation.

Filter by face groups

Face grouping technology isn’t perfect. Filtering by face groups may result in occasionally sharing photos that don’t actually have any of the people you’ve selected.

Filter by date

Sometimes, the date of the photo may be wrong. For example, if the photo was scanned, or the camera wasn’t set correctly, a photo may have the wrong date. Filtering by date may result in occasionally sharing photos that aren’t within the date range chosen.

Accept to share a library

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app . 
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was invited.
  3. Tap Menu Menuand then ”Invitation from [partner’s name]” and then Accept.
  4. Optional: To share your photo library back with your partner, tap Menu Menuand thenShare your library. 

Tip: If someone you don’t know shares their library with you, you can block them. Learn how to block a person.

See your partner’s photos

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app . 
  2. Tap Menu Menu. 
  3. Select “Partner’s name.”

Save your partner's photos

If you save your partner’s photos, they’ll appear in your Google Photos library, search results and can be used for personalized creations.

Any photos you save from a shared library won’t take up storage, unless your partner stops sharing their library with you, or deletes the original copy.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app . 
  2. Tap Menu Menuand then Settings and then Shared libraries.
  3. Tap Save to your library. 
    • All photos: Any photo in the shared library will be saved. 
    • Photos of specific people: Select from your face groups. When Google Photos recognizes any of those face groups from your partner’s photos, it’ll save the photos automatically to your Google Photos library.

Delete photos recently saved from your partner

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com/search/_tra_. This page will have any recently added photos, including photos you’ve added from your partner.
  2. Select the photo you want to delete.
  3. Click Trash .

Stop sharing your library

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was invited.
  3. Tap Menu Menuand then Settings and then Shared libraries.
  4. Next to your partner’s email address, tap More Moreand then Stop sharing your library. 

Remove partner

If you remove your partner, it will stop sharing your library to your partner. It will also stop your partner from sharing their library with you, but it won’t remove any photos that you’ve saved to your Google Photos library.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was invited.
  3. Tap Menu Menuand then Settings and then Shared libraries and then Remove partner and then Remove. 

Share your photo library
