The Notifications tab located in each class section on the Teacher Portal displays all student comments or student behavior reports per week. The Notification tab is class specific and therefore only contains comment and behavior notification information for the teacher’s students in that particular class section. Teachers can enter new behavior and student comments for each of their students. All notifications added will be filed on the Student Profile for historical record keeping.

Notification Tab Organization

The Notification tab is organized into three columns: week, notifications, and student detail.

The Week column displays a calculated total (in blue) of all the notifications submitted in a given week. Clicking on each of the totals filters and sorts the notifications that appear in the “Notifications” column. A teacher can thus choose to display comments for a particular week or all comments.

The Notifications column lists all students who received a notification within the filtered range. The day, student, and type of comment are presented in summary. The different notifications a teacher can enter per student is presented as a colored badge so teachers or administrators can scan down the “Notifications” column and easily view the type of notifications entered that week.

Student Detail

Clicking on each student notification in the “Notification” column changes the student detail information displayed in the third column. This provides detailed information about the comment type, the day it was reported, who it was reported by, and also the comment itself. Clicking on the student’s name opens their student profile in another window.

Notification Types

There are three types of notifications available for teachers to enter in the Teacher Portal.

Student Comment

A student comment is a generic comment a teacher may enter per student. A comment can be student specific (i.e. type = student comment), for parents (i.e. type = parent phone call), or a positive comment about a student’s performance, behavior, etc. (i.e. type = positive comment). The “Comment” text box may be used to enter the comment notes.

Student Behavior

A student behavior comment is the notification of a behavior incident event by the student. The teacher may select from a number of incident type to indicate what the behavior comment is for (e.g. dress code violation, disrespect towards peer, etc.) Further follow-up with the behavior comment may be conducted in ES2/ESWeb through the Behavior Comment record. Follow-up includes processing the behavior incident, indicating the result (e.g. detention), etc.

Multiple Comment

Multiple comments allow teachers to enter a particular comment type (i.e. student comment, parent advisory, or positive comment) for each of his/her students at one time. In this notification type, a text box for each student is included for quick entry of messages. Once all the messages have been written, the green “Send All Comments” button can be clicked to distribute the messages.

Fields Displayed on Comments

The following is a comprehensive list of fields that display on a student behavior or comment entry form in the Teacher Portal. Not all schools have the same configuration for comment entry, so some of the fields listed below may not be displayed on the comment entry form for all teachers.
